Civil Rights: All About Sex?

So not only did Proposition 8 pass in California, where sexual orientation was recognized as being a protected class of historically oppressed people, but a similar initiative passed in Florida.

So marriage equality is worse in Florida, and then there’s this:

“We’re going to use the momentum from the marriage amendment to speak to the fact that most people in this state don’t want a recognition of that type of relationship,” Caton said. “At this time of economic stress, our government should not be providing benefits to nonemployees on the basis on their sexual relationships.”

Antigay-rights activist seeks to ban same-sex benefits – St. Petersburg Times.

So let’s get this straight (pardon the pun).

Florida won’t recognize marriage for gay couples.  And because now they have no immediate hope of marriage, all they are now are people having sex.  And with all that’s going on between people being sex, it’s not really justifiable to give sex partners benefits?

Sheesh.  Imagine if this were for interracial marriages or interfaith marriages or for divorced people.
