Why the Mac Beats PC and Linux Boxes
Really a bons mots post:
You can put visual effect layers on top of Windows or Linux, but it’s just painting a turd.

How Much a Nexus One Will Really Cost You
Want a Nexus One? So does the rest of the technosphere. But how much will it cost you?
First, Gizmodo got the scoop. Edgadget revealed that they have the full terms of sale.
Feel like reading it? And making sense of it? Yeah, I didn’t think so. Don’t worry, I did, so you don’t have to. And I have also recently spoken with T-mobile at length about how their plans work. So here’s the skinny on the total cost of ownership.
It’s sort of a choose your own adventure. Read the rest of this entry »
The U.S. Can Look To Europe To See What The iPhone’s Future Will Be Here — Cheaper & More Reliable
Tricia Duryee gets it wrong when she says that opening the iPhone to more carriers in Europe won’t lower the prices or improve the performance iPhone users complain about at AT&T.
First, Ms. Duryee only looks at the United Kingdom. I’m an anglophile, but let’s face it, England ain’t even in Europe and they don’t use the Euro.
On the other hand, if one peers across the English Channel at France, the price wars have started! Massive discounts were announced.
That looks like it’s breaking news, and actually came out less than 24 hours after the publication of Ms. Duryee’s post.
On the other hand, she makes the mistake of conflating an outage for UK Carrier O2 with the general issues the iPhone has on AT&T’s 3G voice and data network all over the USA.
Want Free Media Coverage? Sorry, there isn’t an app for that.
Would you spend thousands of dollars on an iPhone app just to get free media coverage for your old fashioned business?
BONS MOTS: Camera geeks and their perverted hobby
A photographer friend of mine referred me to Ken Rockwell’s excellent site, where I found this great quotation:
Many people who read my site buy and own too many cameras. They enjoy dissecting photos for engineering details (as I often do on this site) more than they enjoy making photos. They’re often the same guys who buy too many other toys. Those are the people who keep insisting you buy a more expensive camera, since it justifies their perverted hobby. It doesn’t make any better photos.
by Ken Rockwell
A lot of what Rockwell writes about is the importance of technique over technology — something I agree with (to a degree). Technology should make your artistry easier, but technique is really what makes your artistry seem effortless when you’re really rockin’.

5 Reasons Why Twitter Isn’t Lame and Isn’t Only Stalkers and Marketers
A friend of mine recently posted to FaceBook that she doesn’t get Twitter — it’s only good for stalkers. She followed up in her comment stream that she actually manages several Twitter accounts for business and sees value for business for SEO and marketing, but not for a regular, non-stalker person.
Since I’m a non-stalker, I promised a reply. I like the number 5 and so do copy writers, so here are 5 reasons why Twitter isn’t lame. And isn’t just for stalkers. Or marketers.
