Andrew Sullivan Says to Stop the Lawsuits

Comments

Sullivan Married in Massachuesettes

One of the most successful bloggers in the whole blogosphere (who happens to be a happily married gay man with conservative politics as his focus) opines:

My advice to the marriage movement: educate, speak, reach out. Stop the litigating. Resist the impulse to revel in victimhood.

The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan (November 07, 2008) – A Real Threat To Marriage.

Although I can see his point, I can’t concede it.

Granted, Sullivan is really speaking to the whole movement for marriage equality and civil rights.

However, I don’t think his position tenable.

Bons Mots: Paperwight

Comments

I responded to Paperwight’s comment over on a American Constitution Society Blog, visited Paperwight’s sight and read a post with this fantastic quotation.

If you want to be someone better, you have to do something better.

The rest of the blog is pretty awesome, too and focuses on John McCain and how the media has treated him (too well, it turns out).

Split Screen in FireFox

Split

What’s brutal for people arguing on television is great for browsing.

I’m using this new FireFox extension (new to me, anyway).

Great for bloggers.

Twitter Tools to Make Twitter Faster, Funner, More Fantastic

Comments

Twitter Later is a great tool for people who have a small to large following.

Twitter Later is a great tool for people who have a small to large following.

I hope to review a few of these in depth because I’m not a Twitter expert nor am I as tech-centric as I seem to be to non-gadget friendly folks.

In the meantime, a little link love for a great article from Brian Solis:

PR 2.0: Twitter Tools for Community and Communications Professionals.

If you’re using Twitter already and are starting to have people randomly follow you (as I seem to lately), then the one service you shouldn’t wait to try is TwitterLater.

Prop 8 Projections

Comments

FiveThirtyEight's Tracking of Polls

Graphic from FiveThirtyEight.com: Prop 8 a Toss-Up

Kip commented on a recent post that Proposition 8 “likely won’t” pass.

Looking at the numbers above from FiveThirtyEight, I can see why the queer blogosphere and people I know against Prop 8 are saying “we’re loosing.”

It looks like the Yes folks are gaining ground.

Kip mentions in his comment:

A little known fact is that if the amendment passes… then No on 8 can and will go back to court and challenge it post facto based on the wording on the peititions (”will not take away rights,” etc.) that became incorrect after In Re Marriage Cases.

The California Supreme Court declined to address that issue before the election because it almost always does that anyway: it waits until after the election so it doesn’t have to waste time hearing litigation about ballot measures that don’t pass anyway.

I’m betting that, even if it passes, and even if the Supreme Court then decides to hear the arguments, that marriage would stop until and unless the court decided.
